Beads by Gaile is an online business that sells handmade costume jewelry. The jewelry designer, Gaile Holliman has been sharing photos of her jewelry on Facebook and enjoying interest from her friends, family, and customers. However, she wanted a way to grow her business beyond her immediate circle. Rather than sell on Etsy, as many in her category choose to do, she allowed me to design an e-commerce solution for her.

Simple Functionality
The client wanted to keep the back end simple, with an easy process to enter products and learn to use her store. I customized her product editing page, removing modules that she would not use and adding custom fields (like "Bead Color" and "Metal tone") so that she would know exactly where to enter product details.
A layout that emphasizes her photos, with minimal whitespace.
The client's product backgrounds range from crisp white to light gray. The traditional grid layout called attention to those differences, so I created a masonry/mosaic layout that allows the jewelry to shine. The prices are visible, but muted.
The ability to see more product details and purchase products from the category pages.
Woocommerce already allows an "Add to Cart" button under product listings, but I didn't want the button to be visible all the time. Also, due to the simplicity of the product listings, there wasn't a real need to go through to the product page to read more details. Her product descriptions could easily fit in a modal/pop-up window, along with button to purchase and a link to continue on to the product page if the customer wants.
